October 11, 2008, we will be celebrating our 20th Anniversary as a chapter at Calvary Lutheran Church in Green Bay, WI.
Past Events
Our Fox Valley Chapter of NCLA met at United Methodist Church in Appleton with 35 persons in attendance. Following a warm Welcome by Joy Johnson and Devotions by Pastor Grace Cajiuat , Our guest speaker, Dr. Susan McFadden , a professor at the UW-Oshkosh, addressed the group with our theme for the day, "Serving the Young at Heart".
The Fox Valley Chapter of NCLA met October 6th at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Appleton. Following registration, coffee hour, and the business meeting, our guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Roger McQuistion, one of the pastors at Prince of Peace, spoke to the group, sharing tips of Biblical Story Telling. By the end of his sharing session and helpful tips, he had everyone in attendance feeling that they too, could do Biblical storytelling with ease.
RELATE MAGAZINE (a new publication dealing with teen age girls) sent the Preview and following issue to be handed out to each person in attendance. Recipients felt this is a great publication and has good moral values/faith based topics for young teens of today. Many churches plan to share this magazine by placing it in their Youth Rooms and Libraries. If anyone/Chapter is interested in receiving copies of these past issues, please contact: Mary Bowman - 636.444.9994 - www.relatemag.com
They have many copies of the Preview and past issues that they would be willing to share with other Chapters or church libraries. Subscription cost and issues published per year can be checked out with Mary.
Dr. McFadden's talk and Power Point presentation addressed many aging issues of today. By 2030, 1 of every 5 persons in the US will become the Silver Tsunami...being over the age of 65. What is the elderly's value in life?....LOTS!! Susan continues to study aging issues of persons 60-80 with memory loss. How does this group of people feel about their connection to community and congregations as they battle with memory loss?.....and how we, as church librarians are "hidden treasures", by placing resource materials in our libraries for use by Pastors, our congregations and community. Our roundtable discussion included sharing of books from our libraries that addressed the aging issue or were fun reading books for the elderly.
